Chapter2 : Action- Make it your strategy No. 1

“In life, Lots of people know what to do, But few people actually do What they know. Knowing is not enough! You must take action.” - Anthony Robbins

“We have a ‘strategic’ plan. It’s called doing things."
-Herb Kelleher, Founder, SouthwestAirlines

Have you heard of these 3 musketeers?
Well most of us have…

1. Atychiphobia (the fear of failure),
2. Procrastination (the habit of postponing things),
3. Lack of Self Confidence (a sense of self doubt)

As separate entities the above three are lethal and can have a devastating effect on a human’s life; and if they are combined together as a part of your behavior, thereby leading to obvious inaction; progress, to say the least, becomes near impossible.

But take heart; if you too are impaired with one or all of these causes of inaction, with proper introspection and self discipline many people have crossed the Rubicon to become figures of success.

In fact, many times you are aware of certain things that have been tested and verified and have given results in similar circumstances to numerous other people and yet just because of the fear of failure or the habit of procrastinating you tend to delay the action or not take action at all!

I am sure when some other person achieves success doing those very things you’ll remember saying these words to yourself, “I knew it all along this is the way to do this thing, only if I had done something about it.”

Surprisingly many of us don’t do anything even after realizing the fact that, what we know is good enough, and just needs doing, just needs to be acted upon.

You will agree that people have different personalities, different strengths & weaknesses, different opinions, different ways of working, thinking... and what not…

But the one similarity found in most people who achieve success in any walk of life …is the habit of implementing, in full or in good part, whatever they learn as soon as they learn it.

People with the impulse to act, with the hunger to move and get on with it, are the ones who succeed.

I have been witness to a number of average people, with average talents, especially in sales, Who have done wonderfully well and have been success stories to be followed even by their so called high potential friends who are but average when it comes to performance in the real world; due to the one good habit of being proactive in the implementation of their learning.

Once these people, who other wise seem average, act on their seemingly limited abilities or learning, the outcome is more often than not in line with what they desire to achieve.

In all the meetings, trainings and other discourses I have had with my down lines in my career as a sales person and manager or during the training sessions I have conducted, I’ve always pointed out that all the things one learns have value only if implemented…

Surprisingly when a person does not act due to the fear of failure or as a result of the habit of procrastination or because of the lack of self confidence the only way remaining is to put the blame on something else like, recession, or the weather or product pricing or competition; most of which actually don’t’ matter.

You will certainly have heard the old saying, ” a stitch in time saves nine…” similarly an average idea or a simple solution if implemented immediately or at the appropriate point in time, will give much better results than a learning or idea, which however brilliant or successful elsewhere, is either unused or delayed in implementation.

And believe me the solutions to most problems or situations whether it is a sales issue or a life situation; are not spectacular or eye catching which most people are on the look out for, instead they are simple things done on time.

“To be successful, you have to keep moving. After all, no one stumbles on something sitting down.” – Unknown
The largest room is always ‘Room for Improvement’.

Success can come about in the life of every person; the profession you profess is secondary, the primary aim is to overcome:

· Procrastination,

· Fear of failure

· Lack confidence in what ever strengths you possess

So that there are no road blocks on the way to action and implementation of ideas.

Remember there are no bad ideas.
You only know the idea is good or bad after it’s been used.

Looking forward to your comments.

Coming soon chapter 3...
